Welcome to Gateway Anabaptist Church
Welcome to our website.
ATTENTION - June 30, 2009, our church building sustained an electrical fire on the second floor. We have to rebuild as a result. We desire the prayers of God's people in this rebuilding project. We are excited to see what God has for us in the future. We had no insurance on the building as we trust God to meet all our needs. Your prayers and support are appreciated at this time for guidance, wisdom, and strength. Pastor Dan just started a new work in Hillsdale, Mi two Sundays ago; Temple Anabaptist is one year old; and he has pastored here at Gateway for 17 years.
Wow! What a roller coaster the last 90 days have been. Today is October 1, 2009, and God has allowed us to relocate to a much larger facility on 10 acres of land just around the corner from our old building, but a couple of miles south of town on Telegraph Rd, a main thoroughfare. Today, we closed on the property that was purchased on a land contract that must be paid off in a balloon payment in 5 years. We believe God will send us a buyer for our old eight-tenths of an acre on Dunbar Rd because it is now lakefront property. Developers are interested in this property to build beautiful condos on the lake. Thank you for your prayers, supplications, and support! Because of your assistance, we had just enough money to place the down payment to secure this new property and recover ourselves from the fire in our old building. Consider this your formal invitation to come and be a part of our “Thanksgiving and Dedication Services,” Sunday, November 15, through Wednesday, November 18, 2009. We desire to honor all those that have stood with us and have the preachers speak for us as we dedicate this building to the ministry of the Gospel. Excuse our dust! This new facility was a sporting goods store, so there is much remodeling to be done that will keep us busy for some time. The water system was an old iron water well, so the fixtures are a mess and we must tap into the city water immediately. For several years the landscaping has been unattended, so that is another project that will take us some time to correct to make this new property more attractive as a church meeting place. Not to mention the 10 acres of brush and woods to make into ball fields, camper sites, etc. (The Faithway Baptist Church in Ypsilanti, Michigan, has given us a large manufactured modular dormitory that we hope to relocate here before the Thanksgiving & Dedication meeting.) So please come and see how God has honored our faith in Him, and please continue to pray for the Gateway Anabaptist Church. Still “on fire” for the Lord, but in a different way! We are a church that builds people. We are not people trying to build a church. In these days which we live today, we see many quasi-church organizations which are in the business of building a giant "mega-church". The church is supposed to be the "people" not a building. It is an organism not an organization bound by IRS code 501(c)(3). The church is not supposed to keep books for the tax collectors. The church is the Body of Christ and He is the head of it, and not the state. Yet, many churches are bound by the state and its corporate laws because the pastors have willingly joined their church to another head by becoming a corporation. By the grace of God and through the lessons learned by a few men of God, our local assembly is not joined to the state. We are an unregistered and unincorporated local church under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Being Anabaptists,we are often asked what an Anabaptist is. "Ana" is a Latin prefix meaning "re" or "to do again". This term was given to those Christians who re-baptized those who were converted, but had been baptized previously as an infant. These folks were called rebaptizers, or more precisely, Anabaptists. We are Anabaptists. We are not Baptists because there is no way to know what a Baptist is anymore. Most are corporations, and we are not. There are too many flavors of Baptists nowadays. There are Independent Baptists, Free-will, Southern, Primitive, American, Missionary, and Bible Baptists to name a few. In order for us to be distinguished from these groups, we decided to go back to the old fashioned name of Anabaptist. Now in all fairness, we are aware that there are some other groups that claim an Anabaptist heritage such as the Amish and Mennonites. We are neither. Generally, they are simply known as Amish and Mennonites not as Anabaptists. As for the Anabaptists, one thing they had in common throughout all of history is the fact that they were never a state church like the Catholic and Protestant churches. If you would like to know more about our doctrine or the history of the Anabaptists, we will be putting up articles on this website periodically. Please browse the site, and if we may be of any assistance to you in any matter, please contact us through the church contact listed on this site. We would love to answer your questions or pray for your needs. May the Lord Jesus Christ of the scriptures be your Saviour. -The staff of Gateway Anabaptist Church-
